Inspired by the ongoing success of Jai vegetarian lunches at the Toronto Centre on Ohio Road, the Vancouver Branch held a simple Jai on March 17. Although the forecast called for rain it was in fact a beautiful sunny day and 70 members and friends came out to enjoy a Jai meal. Beforehand, about half that number watched or took part in a Goon Yam lighting ceremony, the first held in Vancouver in many years, while a number of others worked in the kitchen to prepare the meal. For many participants, this was the first time to experience either type of event, but everyone soon learned that the most important thing is to work together and enjoy being with each other. In the end, we raised $539 in donations, all the dishes were done by 2:10 pm, and we are looking forward to the next one on May 5.

Wonderful!
