One of the highlights of the Chinese New Year’s banquet was the presentation of a $100,000 (CDN) check to the Foundation Paul Gérin-Lajoie for Haiti relief. Members of the Taoist Tai Chi Society across Canada and around the world raised the funds to help those devastated by the recent earthquake. The Foundation builds schools in Haiti. It is estimated that the cost to build one school is $100,000, so the Society’s donation will assure the completion of a much-needed, new educational facility. More than $75,000 came from Canadian branches, alone. Considering that donations and pledges are still coming in from around the world, it is likely that the final combined donation from the Taoist Tai Chi Society and the Fung Loy Kok Institute will exceed $100,000.
