The First Reports Are Coming In

We are gathering bits and pieces of news from around the world. The 1,700-plus participants in Awareness Day at the Toronto Centre (depicted below) did the set at 14h00 GMT before the political dignitaries gathered to celebrate the day.

In Fairfax, Alaska, 18 members gathered at 6 am local time to demonstrate 2 sets. (See article.)

Chicago, Illinois, also had 18 members gathered at 9 am local time to do two sets. In Chicago suburb Arlington Heights, 30 members were on site to see Illinois State Rep. Mark Walker present the Taoist Tai Chi Society USA with a certificate from the state of Illinois recognizing 40 years of service. Thirty was also the number in Elmhurst, Illinois, and 20 people did the set at Osceola, Wisconsin, about 1 hour from Minneapolis.

In Perth, Scotland, some 350 members from across the country gathered in perfect weather to practice sets together.

In New York City, 28 members collected on Park Avenue at 51st Street to do the set.

In Lisbon, Portugal, 31 members of the Portuguese Association gathered for the world set near the Tagus river after two classes (beginners and regular) and a shared lunch.

While in Portland, Oregon, 35 people gathered at the Willamette River front to do two tai chi sets at 7 am local time this morning.

Wonderful to see familar faces in the photographs of our celebrations in Canada. I’m just home from Perth, Scotland, where some 350 members from across the country gathered in perfect weather to practice sets together. Photographs to follow!

  2. In Lisbon, Portugal, 31 members of the Portuguese Association, after two classes (beginners and regular) and a shared lunch, we did two sets outdoors near the Tagus river. Very hot, but perfect for celebrating the Awareness Day together with all associations in the world.

In Portland Oregon 35 people gathered at the Wilamet River front to do two tai chi sets at 7 this morning. The breeze was blowing off the water making the tempiture perfect. The energy was amazing. The collective awareness that we were part of an international effort to celebrate awareness day made the sets flow.

Here in Atlantic Canada 26 of our members gathered on the Wharf in the beautiful town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to do the set at 11 am local time. We then moved on to the equally beautiful town of Mahone Bay where 19 of us did the set while the 20th held our sign. We’ve got lots of nice photos but, unfortunately, the email request for photos forwarded to us from Orangeville doesn’t have the email address where we’re supposed to send them!

30 members from the Louisville, KY, USA branch counted down the seconds and did a set on the Ohio River at 10am this morning. Half way through the set a reporter from the local news station pulled up to film. The temperatures were steamy and we all christened our Awareness Day t-shirts with lots of beloved sweat. Pictures and video to come.

510 people performed the set in Castle Park, Colchester, UK at 3:00pm local time. Great day, everyone enjoyed themselves.

All 510 people bought the anniversary teeshirt so they could participate in the “big set”.

22 intrepid early risers from the Sunshine Coast contingent did foundation exercises and one set at 7 AM PDT on the beautiful mandala overlooking the water in Roberts Creek, BC!
