Porltand, OR, Hosts a Grand Opening with a Workshop for 170

The Portland Branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA held a successful Grand Opening and International Workshop the weekend of September 17 & 18, 2011.

We hosted over 100 guests from out of town for the event, some from as far as Edinburgh, Scotland. A total of 170 members attended the weekend workshop.

We hosted a Jai (vegetarian lunch) for over 400 people with the extra food going to a homeless shelter. The level of participation from all members, Portlanders, and guests, demonstrated the dedication the members of Taoist Tai Chi Society® have to the organization.

The Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism dedicated a High Shrine at the new building on the morning of the Grand Opening. The two-day ceremony to enliven the three-picture Shrine was awesome, eye opening and humbling. With so many voices chanting in harmony, the presence of the Shrine enlivened the building and practice space, as well. Now local Portlanders have the opportunity and honor to learn more about FLK by opening and closing the shrine on a daily basis.
