Members from seven states joined local dignitaries, former members, curious residents, and Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA president Jane Edwards for the 25th anniversary celebration of the Ithaca Branch in upstate New York July 7–8, 2012.
U.S. Representative Richard Hanna sent a certificate from Congress, which was read by Edwards, recognizing the Ithaca Branch for serving the citizens of Ithaca and Tompkins County, and the branch’s commitment to the community and betterment of the Finger Lakes region.
An elaborate lunch prepared largely by members and supplemented by local restaurants was served as part of the celebration. Edwards, Ithaca Branch president Laurie Hultberg, and National Instruction Committee member Theresa Roll, who taught the national workshop held over the weekend, cut the large anniversary cake. An elaborate array of desserts, including date-walnut moon cakes and sticky coconut sweets, made by members followed.
Thunder and rain didn’t stop the more than 200 guests from enjoying the lion dance and the Chinese dancers. Presentations included a moving testimonial and a demonstration of the set. Among the diverse group was a Taoist visitor from China, who happened to be in town. The newly expanded and renovated Ithaca space provided the perfect venue for this joyous occasion.
