Dragon warms up for AWD at Orangeville’s 150th anniversary

On Saturday, July 6 the town of Orangeville celebrated its 150th Anniversary. The Orangeville Branch of Fung Loy Kok had been invited to participate by doing the Dragon Dance down the main street leading up to the Opening Ceremony on the main stage.

Approximately 50 members from several areas of our “big family” joined in. Members from Peterborough Branch stayed to help after returning the dragon from a Canada Day celebration; others came from Brampton and Guelph as well volunteers from the International Centre.

This was also a wonderful opportunity for the participants of the Health Recovery Week program who were very enthusiastic about joining in and helping out. This included members from Australia, the US, Quebec and New Brunswick.

A big hit, along with the dragon, was the Lion Dance and the whole parade was animated by the drum and cymbal beat. Brochures and little flags were handed out to the audience along the way. It was truly a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community who seemed to appreciate the effort made by all who participated.
