Better living through Taoist tai chi

More than 140 Taoist tai chi practitioners from across the province spent the weekend in Parksville for a national workshop organized by local branches of the Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism. The crowd inside the Parksville Community and Conference Centre Saturday moved as one while doing the 108 moves that constitute a tai chi set. Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism president Marsha Eberhardt said people came together during the workshop to learn more, practise and understand tai chi. Celebrating 20 years of Taoist tai chi in Whitby

John Johnston participated in a tai chi session at the Whitby branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. . Since David Thompson started doing tai chi twice a week a year ago, he says the arthritis in his knees is now “pretty much gone.” The Oshawa man is one of many residents across Durham who have discovered the benefits of the practice, which is comprised of 108 moves intended to help bring the body and mind to a state of balance, relaxation and clarity.
