Edmonton, Canada celebrates the Year of the Horse

What a great evening! 160 members, their families and friends came together to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

Certainly the celebrations were kicked up a notch with the attendance of our very special guest; His Honour, Colonel (Retired) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell, OC OMM AOE MSC CD LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and Her Honour, Mrs. Linda Ethell. The evening’s entertainment started with a loud and boisterous lion dance sure to scare away evil spirits not only from the building, but likely for miles around. During the banquet, we were treated to two very accomplished young girls playing guhzengs.

As well, the evening brought demonstrations of the Tai Chi set, including the seated set and the Tai Chi Sword set. Later in the evening, there were draws for various door prizes including a lovely crystal vase holding a gorgeous arrangement of flowers. After dinner, the Lieutenant Governor kindly took the time to make his way around the room, stopping to chat at each table and allow photo ops. One young man in attendance was particularly thrilled to meet the Lt. Governor and was so excited when the Lt. Governor sought him out and presented him with a pin.
